U.S. to host global OA meeting.(Berlin Open Access Conference Series )(Conference news)(Brief article)

The ninth installment of the Berlin Open Access Conference Series will be held Nov. 9-10 at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Washington, D.C., the first time that the U.S. has hosted the conference. Leaders in the science, humanities, research, funding, and policy communities will gather and focus on issues facing The Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities. The meeting, titled The Berlin 9 Open Access Conference: The Impact of Open Access in research and scholarship, will address the role that OA online can play in hastening the conduct and communication of scholarship and the related opportunities for funders, creators, and end users of this information. The Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities, which was issued by global research, scientific, and cultural institutions in 2003, advances the internet as the medium for spreading knowledge worldwide. Other meetings have been held in Germany, Switzerland, England, Italy, France, and China.
