SYDNEY, Aug 11 AAP - Milestones of the week:



DIPPED - The national unemployment rate, to a decade-low 6.3 per cent.



DEBUTED - NRMA Insurance Group Ltd, on the stock market at $3.02.



CHOSEN - Australian entertainers John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, Tina Arena, Julie
Anthony, Vanessa Amorosi and John Williamson, to sing at the opening ceremony of the Sydney
Olympic Games.



APPOINTED - Olympian John Landy, as Governor of Victoria, replacing Sir James Gobbo.



EXTENDED - Governor-General Sir William Deane's term by an extra six months, so he
can preside over centenary of federation celebrations.



DIED - Actor Max Phipps, of cancer, aged 60.



SACKED - Cricketer Shane Warne from the Australian vice-captaincy because of his off-field
behaviour. He was replaced by Adam Gilchrist.



RETAINED - The Bledisloe Cup, with a last-minute penalty kick by Australian rugby captain
John Eales.
