Qld: Firefighter gear up for long night
Firefighters are gearing up for a long night of back-burning and brush clearing tonight
as bushfires continue to burn across Queensland's south-east.
A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokeswoman says no houses are under threat tonight, but
earlier in the day a piggery and a home were in the path of separate fires.
She says a blaze that threatened for at least eight hours in Mudgeeraba on the Gold
Coast yesterday continued to cause problems today.
The spokeswoman says firefighters have also begun back-burning in Bonogin, on the Gold
Coast hinterland, to control a large fire.
In Gayndah on the North Coast a large grass fire is still alight, but poses no threat
to property.
Firefighters are also back-burning in the Redbank Plains conservation reserve, near
Ipswich and are putting in fire breaks at Meldale, near Bribie Island.
A fire in the Samford Valley, north-west of Brisbane, was brought under control this afternoon.
