WA: Rebels bikie in court over setting fire to inmate

PERTH, Aug 28 AAP - A jailed outlaw motorcycle gang member today appeared in a Perthcourt charged over setting fire to another prisoner, who was a former fellow member ofthe Rebels bikie gang.

John Di Lena, 30, was charged by officers from the police prisons unit with grievousbodily harm with intent after an alleged attack on Gavin John McMaster, 37, at Perth'sCasuarina jail on June 26.

McMaster received life-threatening burns when he allegedly was doused with a flammableliquid and set on fire.

McMaster was serving a nine-year sentence for shooting two members of a rival bikiegang at a Bunbury nightclub on February 9, 2002.

Di Lena appeared in Perth magistrates court today. He was remanded in custody to appearin the court on September 12.

Outside court, police said two other men had been charged over the alleged incidentinvolving McMaster. Both were prisoners at Casuarina.
